For 18 months, the Hodgson family, particularly 11-year-old Janet—endured a series of terrifying and inexplicable events: furniture sliding across rooms on its own, knocking sounds that echoed through the walls, disembodied voices, levitations, and chilling cold spots. The activity was so intense, even seasoned investigators from the Society for Psychical Research struggled to explain it.

But it wasn’t just creaking floorboards and flickering lights. Witnesses, including police officers, journalists, and paranormal researchers, claimed to have seen objects fly across rooms, lights spontaneously burst, and Janet herself levitate in front of stunned onlookers. At one point, a deep, guttural voice emerged from Janet, allegedly belonging to a deceased former resident named Bill Wilkins. The voice knew details of Bill’s death that Janet seemingly couldn’t have known.

The case drew massive media attention, skepticism, and endless debate. Was it a genuine haunting? A desperate cry for attention? Or something far more twisted, something that blurred the line between possession and manipulation?

To this day, no one can say for certain. The Enfield Poltergeist remains one of the most documented supernatural events in modern history, inspiring books, documentaries, and even The Conjuring 2.
